Striped coloured trim strip for automobiles - made by local coating of metal strip prior to applying extrusion coated sheath

Coloured strip for decorative automobile body trim is made by transparent or coloured paste or liquid coatings to a strip of plain metal just before the metal strip is passed through an extrusion coating unit to apply a transparent protective sheath to the striped core strip. More versatile than assembly of contrasting prefabricated coloured strips into a prefabricated base profile with channels sized to receive the strips. The trim strip can have a relatively thin overall thickness, can be wrapped around relatively tight radius corners without cracking or delamination. Simpler than use of integral multiple stream extruders to produce composite multicolour tapes. The coloured layers are internal, which inhibits detachment and gives an appearance or depth and solidity.
