The thermal camera has several gap-forming infra-red detectors and provides a visual display on a monitor. This display is based on signals from a horizontal swing mirror, subject to opto-electronic transducing. An electronic coder (4) scans the amplitude of the horizontal deflection (18), i.e. the instantaneous angular position of the mirror. In the camera (1) is generated a reference signal (19') containing interrogation time points.S The scanning result (18') is compared with the reference signal and the result is used as a starting signal for the detector interrogation, gap after gap. This interrogation starts at defined positions of the mirror oscillating in mechanical resonance. Pref. the forward and backward movement of the mirror is used for the interrogation. During backwards movement position dependence of the interrogation is changed such that the movement paths intersect the gap centre.
