Preparation of methanol from methane by oxidation thereof with the aid of iron(III) sulphate in acidic, aqueous solution as oxygen donor in the presence of a noble metal catalyst and recovery of the iron(III) sulphate by oxidation of the iron(II) sulphate formed from this.
