To dispose of effluents (waste waters) containing combustible pollutants by incineration, the effluent is partly evaporated by utilising the exhaust gas heat and the vapour mixture composed of vaporised pollutants and steam is directly introduced into the combustion furnace, while the non-evaporated effluent residue containing liquid and solid pollutants is sprayed into the combustion furnace. A device suitable for carrying out the process has an evaporation vessel (3) which is furnished with a heat exchanger (4), connected to the steam generator (2), and a feed line (6) for the effluent, the vapour space (18) being connected via a vapour line (7) to the combustion chamber (1) and the water space (19) being connected via a sludge line (10, 11) to an injection device (9) which injects the residual water into the combustion chamber (1).
