The present invention has found synergistic combinations of diterpenes with alpha -keto acids and/or their esters, according to a preferred embodiment bornene, 2-borneol methyl ether and methyl pyruvate, which are used as bioactive agents in pharmaceutical compositions for the treatment of rheumatic disorders, arthritis, disorders of the locomotor system, deformative lesions of the joints (manifestations of wear), intervertebral disc pain, tendovaginitis, periostitis, muscle stiffness, swelling, insect bites and the like in cosmetic compositions for stimulating metabolism in the skin, increasing local blood flow and absorbing moisture and the like.
