In the case of the method for controlling the braking current in an electrical braking device, which operates on the principle of DC braking, for three-phase motors, the braking current is applied to at least one motor winding and the duration for which said braking current is applied is controlled by a generative voltage which is picked off from at least one motor winding as a control voltage as the motor runs down, and is interrupted without delay when the generator voltage remains off after the motor has stopped. The braking device is equipped with a braking current source, which comprises a rectifier circuit and can be connected to at least one motor winding via a trip circuit when the motor switch is changed to "OFF", in order to supply said motor winding with DC as the braking current, and is equipped with a control circuit for defining the time duration over which the braking current acts, which control circuit contains an integrated circuit which is connected as an amplifier and can be connected to at least one motor winding as a function of the motor being switched off.
