Method of determining the wear of the tool in an NC machine tool, in particular an NC lathe

A measuring station is approached in succession by the tool and the workpiece measuring feeler. Then the difference in the positions during this approach to the measuring station is formed. If the measuring station is approached in the same way twice after use of the tool and the corresponding difference formed, the difference between both differential values corresponds to the tool wear. This measuring method automatically eliminates thermal expansion in the machine tool. Instead of the workpiece measuring feeler, a calibrating tool which is not subject to wear can also be used.
