摘要
Low sulphur fuel oils are made from hydrocarbon residual having high metals content (=50 ppm V) by treating feedstock at 700-850 degrees F and 1000-3000 psig H2 in a reaction zone contg. an intimate fluidised mixt. of (a) inert, high porosity demetallisation solids having surface area =100 m2/G and low activity, and (b) a low porosity desulphurisation catalyst having max. pore vol. 0.5 cc/g in pores of dias. =120 A and high activity. Solids (a) are chosen from activated bauxite, alumina and/or silica and (b) is cobalt molybdate on alumina where ratio (a):(b) is 2:3 to 3:2. Use of mixt. of solids (a) and (b) produces improved demetallisation without reducing desulphurisation, and avoids prior art need for separate reaction zones. Also deactivation rate of the desulphurisation catalyst is not affected by mixing of the solids.
