Finishing knitted fabric contg synthetic fibres by hot pressing - to deform synthetic fibres, and after cooling, reheating

A knitted fabric contg. synthetic fibres in hot-pressed e.g. by passage through the nip of a pair of presser rolls of which one at least is heated and the fabric is then cooled by e.g. an air flow, to fix the synthetic fibres which are deformed by the hot pressing. Subsequently the fabric is re-heated to relax the internal tensions in the deformed synthetic fibres. The finished fabric has a greater density and stability and a smoother surface having a reduced tendency to pile.
