Material sensitive to electromagnetic and corpuscular radiation has a metal layer (I) (e.g. Ag) and a layer (II) (e.g. Bi2S3) of an inorganic substance, which can react chemically with (I) when exposed, giving prods. with different chemical and physical properties from those of (I) and (II). There is a barrier layer (IIIe ne.g. As2S2) of another material between (I) and (II), which is inert towards (I) and (II) in the absence of radiation and thick enough to prevent chemical reactions between these in the absence but not in the presence of radiation. Used for the storage of information in the form of photographs and halographs, e.g. in optical memories, electronics, optics, opto-electronics, polygraphy etc. The material has good chemical stability and is highly sensitive to green, blue, UV, red and near IR radiation.
