Bonding of offshore structure to fixing stakes - using shoes between stake and sleeve, expanded by liq. applied from distance, preventing play

A method of ensuring a strong bonding between a structure and stakes which pass through it to fix it to the ground consists of interposing expandable shoes in the space between each stake and the sleeve through which it passes. The shoe is subjected to expansion by liq. press. applied from a distance, so that any relative movement between the stake and the structure is opposed by friction. Method is partic. applicable to off-shore structures, in fixing a column base to the sea-bed, and when the column is articulated on the base. The problems associated with play between the head of the stake and the base are avoided.
