The appts. is used for filling boxes with soft material such as cheese. It includes a feeding device with a piston which is axially displaced towards a funnel. The funnel on which are positioned the empty booes can adopt two positions. In the first position the funnel is contracted to make easier positioning of the boxes, and in the second position it expands to fit the box for filling. The funnel (1) consists of a number of sectors (4, 5, 6, 7) with overlapping ends, and overlap being small in the expanded position and large in the contracted position. The transition of the funnel from the contracted position in the expanded position takes place by the action of the material passed through it by an external mechanism. The sectors are returned in the retracted position by spring action.
