Pharmaceutical compositions for use in treating inflammation in warm blooded animals by topical administration contain bis-(2-pyridyl-1-oxide)- disulphide and/or one or more adducts thereof, preferably of the general formula: (C5H4NOS)2MYt (I wherein M represents zinc, iron, magnesium, tin, cadmium, zirconium, an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal; Y is the anion of an inorganic or organic acid and t is either 1 or 2. Bis-(2- pyridyl-1-oxide)-disulphide or its adducts enhance the anti-inflammatory activity of corticosteroids and non- steroidal anti-inflammatory agents.
