The fruit is lacerated in the first section of a horizontal, rotary drum by tumbling action together with free rolling masses, i.e. ball mill style. In a second section of the drum, the lacerated prod. is strained to separately juice from skin, stones etc. In this addn. the diametral dividing wall between the two drum sections is now formed as a perforated screen so that skin and stones are retained and only juice allowed to pass into the second section. The retained solids are lifted into an axial screw conveyor which carries them through the second section of the drum. The first section of the drum is partitioned into subsections, each with its own size of free rolling masses. The second section has its own charge of free rolling masses to complete laceration of any fine particles still in the juice. The output capacity of the lacerating drum is increased.
