Each balustre is fabricated and wrapped in a shrink on sheet of plastics. The wrapping extends over the exposed portion of the balustre only. The balustre may be assembled into position on the staircase while other building work is in progress with the decorations on the balustre being protected. The wrapping is maintained in position at the ends by means of spacer blocks.
