The rucksack (4) has a frame (1), consisting of at least two parallel uprights (2), on the top of which the canvas of two sides of a tent (7,9) are rolled. When this is unrolled the uprights of the frame form the support for the tent. One part of the canvas (7) extends from the top of the frame to the ground, over the straps (14), and the other part (9) extends over the bag. The first part has an opening (48) which can be closed selectively by a hood (49), which, when folded can be used as a cape for the bag's carrier. The rucksack also supports a roll of thin foam (10) which is fixed to the frame at one end and enrolls to form a combined ground sheet and mattress.
