Freezing wave image from wave generator tank - utilises slotted stroboscopic disc on wave generating motor assembly shaft

A wave tank used in a laboratory to study wave propagation uses a motor vibrator to generate the waves. The waves are illuminated by stroboscopic effect at motor speed to visually freeze the wave movement. A motor (1) is attached to the side of a wave tank (8) and an eccentric element (3) coupled to the motor shaft (2) touches the liquid surface to generate the waves. A disc (4) on the motor shaft has a slot (5) behind which is a fixed lamp (6) assembly. Rays from the lamp are reflected by a mirror (7) to strike the surface of the liquid. A transparent tank allows an image of the waves to appear on a screen (9) where it can be enlarged and recorded.
