Used to extract staples from packing cases or similar, the pincer type hand tool utilises a lever action with the pincer action applying (13a) a retaining bar (12) to the staple. The arrangement prevents the projection of the extracted staple, thus, reducing the possibility of accident. The extraction blade (5) and the retaining bar (12) are mounted on the first hand lever (1), with the second hand lever (2) locating a strut (7) which bears on the face contg. the staple. The strut may take an inverted portal form, its bar (8b) passing beneath the head of the first lever and behind the blade, and its feet being pinned (6) to the head of the second lever. The bar may take the form of a U-shaped rocking lever with a forked head (13a), being pinned (11) to the first lever, and being actuated by a sprung (20,21) piston rod (16). The rod forks (15) to be pinned (14) to the back of the bar, passing through a pivotable (18) plate (17) mounted towards the head of the second lever.
