The device for carrying out printing operations under water has a rectangular housing containing four rotary brushes driven by a hydraulic turbine. The first brush is rotated at high speed and the second brush is driven through gearing to rotate at a lower speed. It also carries out a reciprocating movement parallel to its axis of rotation. The bristles are moved through a grid in a paint reservoir which rotates but does not move axially. The second brush is enclosed by a third brush concentric with it, having longer bristles rotating with it, without sliding. This is supported by the reservoir and is enclosed by the fourth brush. The reciprocation is caused by a cam mechanism. The turbine is an axial flow turbine with an axial tube which assists positioning of the device.
