The W-section steel member can be joined by bolting, riveting or welding to form a building stanchion. It is made from thin steel sheet which is cold formed into a W with the interior wings set at right angles to one another. The exterior wings can be perpendicular to their respective inner wing or set obliquely to them. The channel section formed by the interior wings may be used as a gutter or for housing e.g. electric cables. The outer wings are used to attach the stanchion to a main beam or the roof of a building.
