Three stage reaction appts. for continuous prepn. of coagulant(s) - esp. activated silica or alumino:silicate gel or basic aluminium chloride

The coagulants and/or flocculants are prepd. by a total or partial neutralisation reaction between 2 primary reactants using three chambers in series. The first (A) is for mixing, the second (B) for storage having recirculating means to (A) and the third is for maturation and the prod. formed is used directly from it for the purificn. of water. The relative reaction volumes are 1 for A, 0-15 for B and 1-20 for C. The amt. of recirculation from (B) to (A) is 0-2000% of the flow. It is particularly used to prepare activated silica, activated aluminosilicate gel and basic aluminium polychloride, and it enables adequate agitation avoiding local supersaturation, which, for example in the case of basic aluminium polychloride, results in ppt. of aluminium hydroxide.
