Enzymatically active metallo-protein prepn. - by combining treated keratin fibre solns. in metal chloride-contg. hydrogen chloride and conc. base respectively
Enzymatically active metallo-proteins, which are new, are prepd. by (a) impregnating keratin-, esp. raw wool, fibres with a soln. inhibiting S-contg. aminoacid lysis. The impregnated keratin fibres are divided into 2 equal parts, (A) and (B). (b) Part (A) is dissolved in a soln. of at least 1 easily oxidisable metal chloride in conc. HCl. (c) Part (B) is dissolved in a conc. base soln. (d) The 2 parts, (A) and (B), are mixed to form a ppte. contg. the desired metallo-proteins. The metallo-proteins catalyse the equilibrium dissociation of carbonic acid to carbon dioxide and water and can be used as building material preservative components, esp. for protecting building fronts. By-prods. such as NaClO3 and NaClO4 can be present in the supernatant soln. and can be used for herbicide prodn. The metallo-proteins can be prepd. in large yields, e.g. 10 g out of 1 kg wool, on an industrial scale.
