The chamber is divided by vertical partitions into several corridors, which each possess an inlet for semipulverised mineral or vegetable fuel. The hearth of the chamber contains nozzles for injecting air into each corridor; and the outlet end of the corridors has a chimney for removal of the hot combustible gasas obtd., plus an ash removal grate. The air injection nozzles are pref. inclined in the direction of gas flow; and partitions may be parallel or form baffles so the gases follow an undulating or spiral path. The object is to provide gases which can be burnt in a combustion chamber previously heated by burners using gas or liq. fuels which are now scarce, but where there is no need to alter the combustion chamber.
