Compsns. for thermal energy storage - comprising specified combinations of rocks and heat-transfer fluids

The use of compsns. based on rocks and hydrocarbon heat-transfer fluids for thermal energy storage is claimed, where the compsns are selected from the following rock/fluid combinations, (a) natural silicocalcareous rock and a fluid selected from terphenyls, ethylated terphenyls, partially hydrogenated terphenyls, phenoxytoluenes, diphenyl ether, alkylbiphenyls, triaryldimethanes, alkylbenzenes, paraffin-base oils and perhydrosqualene; (b) extra- siliceous sand and a fluid selected from terphenyls, ethylated terphenyls, phenoxytoluenes, diphenyl ether, paraffin-base oils and perhydrosqualene; (c) trap rock and a fluid selected from terphenyls, ethylated terphenyls, diphenyl ether, phenoxytoluenes, alkylbiphenyls, paraffin-base oils and perhydrosqualene; (d) ex-basalt sand and a fluid selected from terphenyls and paraffin-base oils. Use of the specified combinations minimises thermal degradation of the fluids.
