The sampler comprises a jack whose piston action is equal to the maximum height of water in a reservoir. The piston is fixed to a base plate above the liquid surface. The jack shaft carries a double bracket at the lower end to which a plate is attached forming the upper part of a sample chamber. An orifice in a tube having a valve below it enables the lower part of the chamber to be blocked and the liquid in it to be drawn into a container at an outlet. The base plate is mounted on a trolley which can be displaced transversally.
