Solar rays are received by several heliostats, so the rays are directed towards a receiver. A heat transfer liq. is pumped upwards from a cool tank (I) through the receiver to a hot tank (II). The liq. in tank (II) is pumped through a steam generator, and is then returned to tank (I). Water is fed through the steam generator to create steam employed to drive a turbo-alternator. The heat transfer liq. is pref. the molten eutectic contg. 53% KNO3, 40% NaNO2, 7% NaNO3. The eutectic is pref. preheated to above its m.pt. of 142 deg. C. by an organic liq. flowing through an auxiliary circuit and heated by another set of concn. heliostats. The organic liq. does not decompose at the m.pt. of the eutectic. A high yield of energy is obtd. from the solar rays.
