Digester vessel, for anaerobic fermentation of organic waste to produce methane gas and leave a fermented material suitable for use as an agricultural fertiliser, comprises an easily transportable container it is partic. suited for mounting on a tractor trailer which can carry the container over an area of land on which the fertiliser is to be spread directly from the container. The container pref has a cover which is removable but airtight when fitted. Both container body and cover have an insulating jacket filled with injected polyurethane foam. Pref the cover has a downward flange around its rim which dips into an effluent overflow channel around the digester space, providing a gap-tight hydraulic seal. The container is pref fitted with a horizontal shaft rotary agitator which both breaks up crust formations on the surface and prevents sedimentation in the base of the container. The exterior sides of the container are pref channeled to take rollers at the ends of links of a screw operated scissors lift. Fertiliser can be spread directly from the container on to the field.
