Rotational stirring appts. for fluids - which flow radially outwards through tubular, rotating stirrer blades to accelerate mixing of fluids

Stirrer is used to subject one or more materials to rotation and centrifugal or centripetal force. The stirrer subjects the materials to high pulsed speeds which fluctuate w.r.t. time. A pref. appts. uses a motor to rotate a vertical shaft carrying a box on its bottom end; and the base of the box is open. On the periphery of the box are two or more curved radial tubes. Due to the rotation of the shaft, the materials flow upwards into the box and then radially outwards through the tubes, so materials in a vessel contg. the stirrer are subjected to cyclic variations in stirring speed. Used esp. for the mixing of, and/or heat transfer between, liqs. and/or gases, and possibly solids, where rapid mixing and/or heat exchange is achieved.
