Submerged pump with impeller mounted on extended motor shaft - uses elongated electric motor shaft with conical taper to direct fluid to impeller

The submerged impeller pump has the impeller mounted directly on the shaft of the electric drive motor. The impeller is carried solely on the bearings of the electric motor, which is sealed inside a metal casing. A jointing flange covers the end of the motor enclosure and incorporates the shaft bearing housing and a sealing ring held in place by a spring assembly. The fluid is drawn in radially through screened holes near the motor jointing flange and is directed axially away from the motor. Along the axial length of the inlet the pump shaft has a conical taper reducing in diameter to move fluid away from the motor towards the impeller blades. A short conical taper in the outer casing reduces the casing diameter to that of the impeller at the pump outlet.
