The extraction is followed by concn. of the extract. Pref. solvents are 1-3C alcohols, 3-5C ketones, 3-6C esters, 1-2C halohydrocarbons and mixtures of these or an aq. basic soln. The extract is pref. evaporated on a polyol, an oil or fat or a surfactant. The colourant is pref. used in cosmetic compsns., esp. contg. a metallic salt, esp. of Fe, Mg or Al. Used in cosmetic compsn., esp. for hair dyeing, the natural colourant has remarkable dyeing properties and also has anti-inflammatory and provitamin A properties.
