Azimuth and elevation control for e.g. parabolic dish solar collector - uses electric motors, one rotating dish carrier round vertical axis and second rotating tilting dish round horizontal axis
The positioning of a parabolic reflector (1), used as a solar collector or satellite communications receiver, is controlled by rotation of the reflector support (2) round a vertical axis (ZZ1) and tilting of the reflector in its support about a horizontal axis (XX1). The reflector (1) is carried in a frame (2) which is free to pivot about a horizontal shaft. The horizontal shaft is fixed to a horizontal plate (4) carried on a vertical shaft (ZZ1) inside a vertical column (5) mounted in the ground. A bi-directional electric motor rotates the vertical shaft and controls the azimuth angle while the elevation angle is controlled by a second electric motor (19), pivoted (22) from the reflector frame (2), rotating a threaded rod (20). The rod passes through an internally threaded hole in a pivot (23), mounted on a bracket (26) attached to the horizontal disc (14).
