The turbine has a runner wheel disc (7) with a hub (6) which fits on the shaft. At its outer periphery the disc is machined into two hollow annuli (9), which meet on an edge (8) running round the periphery midway between the two axial faces of the disc. The blades or buckets (10) are attached to this profiled periphery of the disc. The shape of the cavities (9) corresponds to the flow pattern required at the radially inwards edge of the blades, which have a matching profile. Because the disc is made to match their shape, they are more easily made by casting, pressing, or machining.
