The unit for relaxing a patient simulates a womb-like environment. It comprises a cabin in which is an elongate bath (2) with an ellipsoidal space (1) above it. The unit is acoustically insulated and has a cassette-recorder (H) mounted in the roof. This plays soothing music or human voice recordings through two loud-speakers (HP) also set in the roof. Diffuse coloured light which may be red, orange or violet illuminates the unit with a variable intensity. A ventilation duct (6) extends through the sidewall of the cabin.
