Sintered material is claimed comprising fluoroapatite of Ca or Sr, having a crystal structure free from foreign phases detectable by X-rays, having a porosity varying from 0-60% and a regular texture free from internal stresses. The material has a compressive strength of 5000-15000 kg/sq.cm, a bend strength of 1000-2500 kg/sq.cm, and an elastic modulus of (2-6) x 10 power 5 kg/sq.cm. The material may include a substance having the same crystal structure such as a hydroxyapatite. The material is used for bore prostheses. The material has adequate strength, is highly compatible with neoformed bony tissue and forms a solid joint therewith. The porosity permits passage of nourishment to the surrounding materials.
