The cam (3) is of an approximate equilateral triangular form with rounded angles and tangential convex sides. It is located without play in the rectangular window of a slide, and is rotated to impart reciprocal linear motion to the slide. The window has a side of length (2a) whilst the amplitude of the mechanism (2b). The cam (3) edge profile (C) is defined by the equation x cos A + y sin A = a+bf(A), where f(A) is an odd number, and is the polar angle with reference to orthogonal axes (OXY). (O) is the axis of cam rotation and f(A) may equal cos 2n+1 A with n equalling 1.
