An exterior rear-view mirror for cars includes an intermediate component (3) which is connected to a base (1) attached to the vehicle bodywork about an axis (4) and which is connected to the housing (2) containing the mirror (14) about another axis orthogonal to the axis. The intermediate component pref. consists of a spindle (18) carrying a mounting tab (19) which contains an opening for co-operation with the axis defined by the support (12) in the base (1). The spindle is held against pivotal supports (15) contained in the housing (2) pref. by an elastic strap (24).
