Sealed glass plate mounted photocell assembly process - uses serigraphy to produce connections, sealing, surface doping and interconnections to other cells, and fritting oven to seal
The cell assembly consists of a positioning tube to receive the photo voltaic cells with a conducting grid in place underneath, an oven with a heating plate. The plate accommodates the front glass protecting plate with sealing beds in place and a trolley with guides and a suction bed to carry the cells into position in the oven under the sealing plate and withdraw them again. The cells and sealing plate are pressed together in the oven by compressed air operated rams with ball jointed pads. The trolley runs on wheels on the mounting framework and passes into the oven through a two way horizontally hinged door operated by the trolley. The positioning table controls the angular position of the cells. The silicon cells are 300 microns thick and 10 cm diameter with the surface doping, front and rear contacts produced by serigraphy, pyrolysis and prefritting. The two parts are joined and heated under pressure to produce the diffusion and fritting of the seals and conductors.
