Drive mechanism for the lag cylinder, or similar components of shedding mechanisms requiring an intermittent drive comprises an input shaft driven at a constant speed from the mainshaft of the loom, and an output shaft at right angles to the input shaft which is driven from the latter at a non-uniform rate by a worm and wheel. The worm is mounted on the input shaft via a sliding collar attached to a cam having a circumferential groove in which a fixed pin is engaged, the profile of the groove being such as to cause a cyclical displacement of the worm which produces a saccadic movement of the output shaft. This construction enables the saccadic motion of the output shaft to be varied to suit the particular requirements of the machine or of the structure being woven.
