Reliability of the electric machine with a superconducting inductor and gas-cooled winding of normal type of conductivity is increased by the elimination of mechanical ties of the cooling system. This prevents vibration transfer of the rotor to the superconducting winding of the stator which is held in a cryostat. The stator carries a compensating winding for counteracting the electromagnetic moment of the rotor, and which is made of normal conductivity wires. The cryostat is attached to the side walls of the stator housing leaving a clearance for the passage of the gaseous coolant, and thus avoiding contact between the superconducting winding of the stator and the rotor. The cryostat (4) ensures cooling of the superconducting field winding (5) by liq. He, while the compensating winding (6) held by the stator (I) is traversed by the nominal rotor current and is cooled by gas flowing through the clearance. The compensating winding is secured by rings (S) of the stator housing (2) and the rotor (7) with its winding (10) is supported in bearings (9).
