The tool is actuated by screw-jack and may be used to compress a vehicle axle-spring (3) or demounting, comprising two or more clamps connected by one or more screw-jacks (4,6,5,7). The clamps comprise hooks, plates or rings and the screw-jacks comprise a threaded rod screwed into a tapped tube (6,7). One clamp (2) has a horseshoe shape with a housing (2') for a spring (3), having two diametrically opposed projections (10,11) of which each locates a tube mounted on ball bearings. The heads of the rods (4,5) can be pinned (8,9) between forks provided on a second clamp (1) of a similar form, or may each attach to a hooked fitting, the tubes (6,7) being wound by hexagonal barrel segments (22).
