The appts. has a compact vertical format, incorporating a heat pump as the main heat source, with auxiliary electric heating and humidity control. Wood is laid horizontally across the length of the drier with the heat pump plant in the base of the enclosure and electric heating and ventilation fans in the top. The enclosure is parallelepiped and has a screened air intake in the base. The refrigerant compressor and its heat exchanger are mounted on the base. Pipes couple the refrigerant to the condenser constructed as a large rectangular coil running the length of the drier. The wood is stacked inside the condenser coil. Moisture from the wood falls into a tray below the condenser, and motor driven fans (17) extract humid air. An electrically powered heater above the condenser raises the ambient temp. in the heat pump start up period.
