The egg collector comprises a pair of side walls (1) with one open end (12) and the other end closed by a panel (14) which is mounted on a rotatable shaft (17). The shaft moves the panel so that it sweeps along the collector as far as the open end. The lower edge of the panel has a pivoted tongue (22) mounted on it which pivots upwards to ride up over any egg encountered in the outward direction i.e. towards the open end. When the panel is moved back to the initial position the tongue scoops up the egg and deposits it on a ramp (27) which leads to a collecting device.
