Tubeless bicycle tyres with grip tape - facing the wheel rim to fit wheels of slightly differing forms

A tubeless bicycle tyre is provided with a tape between the seam of the tyre and the face of the wheel rim such that the tape is firmly bonded to the tyre, is wider than the wheel rim and has a very strong rubber or plastic surface. Pref. the tape is 25-30 mm wide, being 4-6 mm wider than the wheel rim and features superficial studs having a height, dia. and spacing of approx. 1 mm. Esp. applicable to racing or lightweight touring tyres reinforced with two carcass plies having axes crossed at less than 90 deg., with an interlayer of rubber or plastic sheet at least 0.2 mm thick to suppress mutual ply abrasion as the tyre is flexed. The tape allows a tyre of given size to adapt to rims of slightly different shape or width while providing a firm grip - can tolerate variations of wheel rim dia. of e.g. 622-630 mm, compared with a latitude of +- 1 mm of a conventional tubed tyre.
