In the measuring device for an IC engine ignition delay the operation of a counter (22) is triggered by a flank of an ignition control signal which actuates the ignition propery. The counter operation is stopped by an ignition pulse generated at the ignition coil (14). The attained counter state represents the ignition delay. Pref. the counting operation is controllable by a flip-flop (13), settable by the signal flank of the ignition control pulse and resettable by the ignition pulse. The ignition pulse, generated by the ignition system, can be output coupled by a coupling element (19). The system may include an ignition control circuit (11) to which is supplied the counter state, proportional to the ignition delay, as an actual value. The control circuit may be either of an ignition angle control type, or of a closing angle control type.
