The circuit breaker has a sliding piston which provides an air lock seal when the upper and lower parts of the circuit breaker are disassembled for maintenance or other purposes, allowing part of the circuit breaker to remain coupled to the dielectric gas supply line while only a small volume of gas is lost from the part removed. In order to remove any condensation left on the exposed surfaces of the disassembled breaker, aml a small passage to the outside atmosphere is provided, allowing a small volume of dielectric gas to be blown through the breaker, after re-assembly, to purge all air and moisture. The passage has a spring loaded sealing piston which is displaced away from its seat by a push rod inserted through a hole provided through the mounting flange of the upper part of the breaker. When the rod is withdrawn the entry hole is sealed with a plug.
