Doses of additive e.g. powders, crystals or granules, are weighed out and consolidated at unit doses. Two or more doses of different size are packaged together in a leakproof wrapper. The size of each dose is determined as suitable to treat a specific quality and/or quantity of must, esp. the three fractions known as premiere cuvee, first and second cut pressings from a batch of grapes. Each dose can be tabletted by using a binding agent sol. in must. Tabletted or not each dose can be contained in a fine mesh sachet. Several doses can be tabletted, joined together in a single stick with break-off notches between doses. Each dose is a measured quantity of treatment agent, e.g. Potassium bisulphite, Bentonite or tanin, for a given quantity and quality of wine must. Method gives more accurate dosing by unskilled labour. Doses remain in sealed wrappers until required. The dosing material is protected against outside influences and handling personnel are not exposed to the dosing material.
