rigid or flexible boards or sheets are presented in piles to an arm (16) equipped with suckers (18) moving in a vertical plane. The height of the top of the pile (P) is kept constant by a stepping motor driving a screw gear (14) working in conjunction with a photo-detector. A cam (22) governs the movement of the arm which raises an edge of the sheet whilst a horizontal plate (26) mounted on a trolley (24) is automatically moved under it by the action of a rocking arm (28) working from a rotary driVe. With a pin and template arrangement (34,36), the rocking arm conveys the sheet to a pair of feeder rollers (38) onto the supply conveyor belt (30). The process is automatic and self-repeating. The rate of sheet feeding and conveyor rocker speed are continuously variable to sink the sheet length.
