Continuous induction furnace, esp. for heating long steel slabs - using rows of upper and lower induction heating modules to form wide tunnel through which slabs travel sideways
The furnace is used for heating conducting solids, esp. long semifinished metal prods. such as steel slabs, which travel sideways and horizontally through a flat tunnel formed by rows of flat induction heating blocks located both above and below the slabs. Each block contains at least one polyphase electro-magnetic inductor. The lower blocks are sepd. from each other by conveyors which move the slabs through the tunnel. The pref. conveyors consist of walking beams or slides in which a coolant is circulated. An insulating refractory coating is pref. provided on the surface of the induction heating blocks facing the slabs. Used e.g. for heating slabs prior to rolling, where each slab is 10 metres long x 1.5m wide, and the furnace will hold ten moving slabs.
