Elastic silicone foam contg. refractory ceramic fibres - imparting improved flame and heat cracking resistance, used in building industry

A elastic silicone foam having fire barrier properties comprises a silicone elastomer, opt. flame retardants and, as an improvement, also 5-50 (20-30) wt % incombustible fibres, pref. refractory ceramic fibres. The fibres are pref. Al2O3 or fibres having the following chemical compsn.:5-90% SiO2, 5-90% Al2O3 and up to 10% of Fe2)3, TiO2, CaO, MgO, Na2O and K2O on total. The fibres are 2-7 microns in dia. and 10-500 microns in length. The foam pref. also contains a finely divided mineral filler having a large specific surface area. The foam is used in the building industry cable ducts, protection of documents (manuscripts, magnetic tapes etc). Use of the fibres prevents the foam from cracking caused by heat, partic on large surfaces, and thus enables a wider application of the prod.
