Multilayer relay blade contact point mfg. process - uses riveting noble metal alloy wire sections in continuous band with contact formed by flattening pushed-back sections
The process forms single or double relay blades from a continuous band of metal. Contact ridges are fixed to the band to be cut into the stationary blades by the riveting of strips of a noble metal alloy into ellipsoidal machined holes. The band is successively machined for locating holes, riveting holes, separating slits and dividing slits. A rectangular section wire (CT) of noble metal-bronze sandwich construction is fed along a guiding tube (G) through holes (Fa) in fixed plates (P1, P2) and an intermediate sliding plate (TR). Moved by a vertically moving cam (C) and return spring (R), the central plate shears off a section of wire (P). The section is pushed into the riveting holes (Fr) by a push rod (PR). The ends having been lightly burred, the wire section is shaped to reveal a larger, rounded surface of alloy.
